16 Inch Mountain Bike
Is $175 a good deal for a 1996 trek 930 Singletrack?
I’m interested in a getting a starter mountain bike. I found this on craiglist:
Trek 930 Singletrack 16 1/2 inch frame. Includes new saddle, new urban tires, fenders, rear rack, and two water bottle cages. $175.
Is a $175 too much for a 14 year old bike?
It depends on how much it fits what you were looking for
-looking for a Steel framed mountain bike
-Fits you perfectly (take to bike shop)
-components shift perfectly and frame in great shape
Any of those missing it isn’t worth $50 to you but otherwise I personnaly would jump on it.
I have the guys version of this bike as it was my first bike that fit me that got me into cycling. I still use the bike for mountain bike and pulling my kids in a bike trailer and I love it. Got it a few years ago in Atlanta for $150 (had chipped paint and dent in frame). Put a lot of miles on it and love it. It it comes with the stock seat throw it in the trash as it is like sitting on a brick.

Important Help With Buying Childrens Bikes
If you have a young child, you are probably already thinking about the bicycle you are eventually going to give them. Since it is going to factor heavily into the child’s memories you want to make sure that you pick out the perfect one. There are several things that you need to keep in mind when you are buying childrens bikes.
Parents want to make sure that they purchase a bike that their child is going to use. By the time a parent thinks that their child is old enough for their own bike, the parent should have a pretty good grasp on their personality.
It is very rare for a child, especially one who is very young, to understand the concept of taking care of their possessions. Since it is going to get used and abused many parents look for used models which are usually easy to find and less expensive.
The bike is going to get left out in the rain and snow. It might even be left in the middle of road and get run over by a car. Since the bike is going to be damaged, the parents might want to look for a good quality used child’s bike which will not cost as much.
If the parents decide that a new bike is the best way to go, they need to think about whether they should get a pre-assembled bike or one that the parents are going to have to assemble. The advantage of the assembly required bikes is that they are cheaper. The advantage of the ones that are already assembled is that the parent knows it is put together properly and that they are tight.
Most kids do just fine when they have a 12 inch bike. The 12 inch bike is small enough for them to mount and steer easily. Some parents try purchasing a 16 inch bike thinking that their child will grow into it. More often than not the 16 inch size proves to much for the child to handle and they end up crashing, and quickly stop riding their bike. In addition to making sure that the bike is small enough for the child to handle, parents also need to make sure that the seat is set low enough that the child can reach the ground easily.
The worse thing a parent can do is give a child a new bike and not instruct their child on how to ride it. If the child has never ridden anything but a tricycle, the parents need to attach training wheels to the bike and make sure that the child is comfortable with the new bike before detaching the training wheels. When the training wheels do come off, the parents need to supervise whenever the child is riding.
A child’s helmet needs to be purchased for the child at the same time as the parents are buying childrens bikes. Making sure that the helmet fits the child properly is even more important than making sure they can handle the bike. Parents need to make it very clear to the child that they are not allowed to ride their bike unless the helmet is firmly strapped to their head.

what should I change in order to lose weight?
I am 16 years old male, 5 feet 4 inches, and 146 pounds. And is looking to get down to 140 pounds. So here is my typical schedule every week.
Every other day I swim laps for an hour.
Every other day in between swimming I mountain bike for an hour.
On Saturday I play tennis.
Sunday I rest.
Since I still live with my parents, I don’t have much choice on what I eat for lunch and dinner. However for breakfast I usually eat.
One bowl of Oatmeal
yogurt (100 calories)
small glass of milk
fruit ( usually a banana)
other then breakfast I don’t really have any control on what were having for lunch and dinner. So I am interested in finding out, what you can suggest for me to reach my goal of 140 pounds. Any suggestions? Tips?
thanks to everyone and god bless.
Personally, I think you are doing great with getting that much exercise in. The best way to lose weight is to exercise as much as you can as long as your are eating healthy and replace all the electrolytes you’ve lost….you should lose a few lbs as well as add on some muscles
